Whether you’re already a fan of the game, are interested in learning more, or simply want to bask in some hilarious outdoor adventures from the comfort of your couch, “Golfing Adventures with Frankie, the Witty Caddie” and “More Golfing Adventures with Frankie, the Witty Caddie” provide the perfect summer escape—all from the luscious grounds of the River Vale Country Club golf course.

The stories are told from the viewpoint of Frankie, a 14-year-old entrepreneur always on the lookout for ways to make money. Problem is, the small town holds scarce opportunities for the enterprising young teen. When his dream job in sanitation turns to rubbish, Frankie tries selling subscriptions to the local newspaper. Though articulate and good-natured, Frankie cannot secure a single signing and realizes sales are not in his future either. He soon resorts to doing odd jobs such as mowing lawns, raking leaves and even takes on a few gigs in babysitting. When Frankie’s good friend Ozzie regales him with tales of his new job as a caddie, Frankie knows this is the perfect hustle for him.

Readers will delight in Frankie’s chameleon-like abilities to adapt to his surroundings. This is evident in his very first moments on the course—Frankie doesn’t know a thing about golf, but that doesn’t deter him. On the contrary, he quickly picks up on all the nuances of the game and makes himself indispensable. He just as quickly realizes the golfers he is caddying for are somewhat inept, to say the least, thus providing a backdrop for lively, entertaining adventures, along with some creative advice from a witty and sarcastic teen.

Author Paul Sturm is a charming storyteller. I found myself laughing out loud many times throughout the stories, sympathizing and empathizing with the brave young caddies and the bungling golfers they attended. I golf occasionally and my husband golfs several times a week, so we are well-versed in the mishaps of the game and the mysterious allure that keeps golfers enchanted. Along with countless travails of the golfers (and the caddies) readers will also pick up helpful tips and rules of the game.

Both volumes, “Golfing Adventures with Frankie, the Witty Caddie” and “More Golfing Adventures with Frankie, the Witty Caddie” are quick and easy reads and will appeal to all age levels. Teens will find the stories highly amusing and might even spark an interest in learning more about the sport. Golf fans will surely commiserate with some of the unfortunate obstacles encountered and may even find themselves reminiscing about their own escapades with wayward caddies. Overall, fun reads for all.
